*chuckling* I would guess that in the moment of those things happening, general nerves and anticipation heighten the emotions as those things are happening. R's & my wedding day, and the days leading up to it, I was in total and complete denial about my own level of anxiety. It wasn't until after the ceremony was over and we were just taking pictures and being silly that I felt the nerves slide away. There were a few things that happened the day prior and day of our wedding that -as you said- if we allowed ourselves to think they were anything other than basic human silliness, they would have tainted an otherwise wonderful day. And terrifically, because of that very perspective, we're able to look back on those very events and laugh at them....because they were funny. Only, they didn't *seem* funny when they were happening...LOL!

I started reading through their 'social competency' ebook and was frankly blown away. First off, I was not aware that there were men out there who were so completely lost regarding their 'place in society' that something like this could possibly appeal to them. Guys, if you are so far gone that that website sounds like good advice, you've got big big problems. It tells me that your relationship with women has been so totally one-sided that you have absolutely no clue what 'healthy' is and you are grasping for anyone to speak with authority regarding 'how things oughta be'.

Make no mistake, that website is not teaching 'social competence', it's teaching 'social dominance'. Like many internet 'communities' it will attract a small number of people who will talk into the echo chamber and listen to each other until they believe that they truly represent 'normal' and the majority. But it ain't so. That's not what being a real man was ever about, and it's not what being a real man should be about. My father raised me better than that, and his father raised him better than that. They both knew their place in society and in the male/female relationship and it was always about a partnership and playing to each other's strengths, not spending your time obsessing over whether you were letting the other person dominate you. If you're that worried about looking weak, then the problem is you, not someone else.

And probably learn how to "rightly divide the word of truth" That is the Bible. because he is greatly misrepresenting God, the Bible , and christianity, and Christians. His ignorance could only be eclipsed by perhaps some moron thinking that Guam would flip over and sink into the ocean if we put more troop in the island. But of course nobody with half a brain would ever make such a comment....oops...I think a Hank Johnson Democrat from Georgia did!!!

1.	We did not “create spirits, demons, monsters, and gods.” You have that quite backwards. God created us. This is one of the many problems in your thinking. If we created them, then it would place us in the position of being a god. This is a major weakness with secular humanism. Also a violation of the first commandment!
2.	Interesting thought that these “creations varied from culture to culture” then you say, “All of these deities had mostly similar traits…” Ever wonder why they had similar traits? Could the possibility exist that accounting for cultural differences they could all be based on a truth?
3.	Galileo, a believer! Newton a fanatic believer!
4.	Religious thinking is not necessarily analogous to “magical thinking” There is a lot of things you believe that are just that a belief… things that have not been proven scientifically to be the truth. Why is your belief more valid than mine? Why is my belief assumed to be a result of superstitious beliefs in magic by an ignorant uneducated religious moron?
5.	For the record: I am not afraid “not” to know. I do rely on faith. I do not rely on hunches. They are not the same thing and are actually on different ends of the spectrum.
6.	Actually I can sincerely say I am not afraid of anything. That is right anything! Except carny folk, they have small hands and smell like cabbage.
7.	Wait a minute…. I am religious AND I believe in the scientific way of thinking!!! How can that be? So again you assume that if someone believes in God he must be an ignorant uneducated moron who dismisses science! (And we are the ones that stereotype folks) (YUP , examine yourself)
8.	You last paragraph was a total waste of bandwidth, Faith can and DOES cause us to modify our ideas about the world as new information is discovered.
9.	You contrast science to faith that science allows you to make predictions …whoa The Bible has made a vast number of predictions or prophecies some 800 – 1500 years into the future…and what a record it had to boast about the number that has been fulfilled and the accuracy of the prophecies..
10.	If you would stop your attack on religion, particularly your favorite target, Christianity, then real dialogue could be achieved and maybe instead of demonizing and insulting anyone who does not believe in your talking points, we could actually celebrate the differences and accomplish something together for man(and woman)kind.

Thanks for the response, James. You've raised a number of potential discussion points in your reponse, but for the sake of brevity, I'd only ask one follow up. Is there anything that government CAN'T do in order to "promote the general welfare?" If there are some prohibitions (such as things done by the government that would violate the Bill of Rights), is this not a fair position to consider? And if there are no prohibitions to achieve the end of "general welfare," they why have a Constitution at all?
